
What is Mouth Ulcers
Mouth ulcers, also known as canker sores, are small, painful sores that develop inside the mouth, on the tongue, inner cheeks, gums, or lips. They can cause discomfort while eating, drinking, or speaking but usually heal on their own within 1-2 weeks.
Causes of Mouth Ulcers:
✔ Minor injuries (biting the cheek, braces, rough brushing)
✔ Stress and lack of sleep
✔ Deficiency of vitamins (B12, iron, folic acid)
✔ Spicy, acidic, or hot foods
✔ Allergic reactions or sensitivity to certain foods
✔ Underlying medical conditions (e.g., anemia, gastrointestinal diseases)
Types of Mouth Ulcers:
- Minor Ulcers – Small, heal within 1-2 weeks without scarring.
- Major Ulcers – Larger, deeper, take longer to heal, may leave scars.
- Herpetiform Ulcers – Multiple tiny ulcers that merge into a larger sore.
Treatment & Remedies:
✔ Apply a soothing gel or prescribed ointment.
✔ Rinse with warm saltwater or antiseptic mouthwash.
✔ Avoid spicy, acidic, and hot foods.
✔ Maintain good oral hygiene with a soft toothbrush.
✔ Take vitamin supplements if deficiency-related.
